Festa de Sant Joan

A celebration that has defined Menorcan identity for centuries

🐎 23–24 June · Ciutadella

The Festa de Sant Joan is the most important festival in Menorca, dating back to the 14th century. For two days, the narrow streets of Ciutadella come alive with the sound of horse hooves and cheering crowds.

The Jaleo

The centrepiece of the festival. Horsemen (caixers) in traditional black attire guide their horses to rear up in the Plaça des Born while the crowd surges forward to touch the horses' chests — a moment of pure energy and tradition. Wear white with a red scarf!
